Important Details to Consider When Remodeling

There are many reasons you might want to update your kitchen or bath, including outdated aesthetics, wear and tear or its simply not functional. The staff at Kitchen and Bath Innovations want to make the process of updating your kitchen or bath as easy and enjoyable a possible.  Below you will find some helpful steps that you can take to help you prepare as you begin the journey of remodeling your kitchen or bath.

Likes & Dislikes

Start out simply identifying what you do and don’t like about your space. Write down this list and update it as you come across new details. Is your refrigerator in an awkward location or does the flow of the room not work? Do you need a niche in your shower to store soaps and shampoos?

These small details will assist in making sure your designer configures a space that works not only for your home, but the functionality of it as well.

Wants vs. Needs

What are your wants and needs?  Do you need more storage and prep space? Do you want a microwave drawer and built-in oven?  Do you want a freestanding bath tub or a tub with a deck built around it? If you need help in creating this list, work with your designer on what they recommend. Once you have your list, prioritize these items from most important to least important.  This helps you and your designer remove things, if necessary, should space or budget not allow it.

Style

There are so many different style directions you can take when designing an updated space in your home. Take some time to research sites like Houzz and Pinterest or your favorite decor magazine and decide what looks really speak to you. Save these images for your designer so you are both speaking the same language.

Common trends we continue to see in the design world are similar to this picture, white kitchens with soft marbles and an accent island in a color or paint. It’s a beautiful, timeless look that will be around for years to come. We are also seeing warm wood tones returning, often as accents on the island and range hood.

Budget

One of the most important topics when planning your remodel, and the hardest to discuss, your budget is a keystone for your entire project. The more open you can be with your designer, the easier it is to create a project that is beautiful, functional and in your budget. A skilled designer can give you an expected price range after they have seen your space, but your wants and needs list will direct the price up or down.
